What Is The Future Of Computing?

Uploaded by Mason Costa on November 5th 2011 at 01:32AM

In most of my articles, I make a concerted effort to be unbiased. I try to cover topics for what they are, not for what I see them as. But every now and then, it's kind of fun to stir the pot and throw my two cents in. Having said that, I feel like doing that tonight. To all of the loyal readers out there, sorry for not posting this morning. I'm doing some work on the house and had to prime and paint before we could make anymore progress; so I got in touch with my inner Sherwin Williams today. But you don't read this because you want a play by play of my day, I believe Facebook would suffice for that. No, you're patiently waiting for me to divulge what the heck I'm going to be weighing in on this fine evening. Well, boys and girls, fans of all things nerdy, our topic for discussion this evening is the future of computing.

What The Poo? Japanese Researchers Turn Feces Into Food

Uploaded by Mason Costa on November 3rd 2011 at 12:03PM

For some reason, when I woke up this morning, I decided we should take a trip back to the weird side of technology and science. And folks, it doesn't really get any more weird than this. So stop me if you've been in this position; you go to the restroom and see the person before you left a present. The natural reaction is to think you could synthesize the proteins in it and eat them; right? Okay, so maybe this isn't a normal thought process; but that doesn't mean it hasn't happen. The Tokyo Sewage service approached a researcher at the Okayama Laboratory about a problem they were having. They had too much "sewer mud", aka human feces.

Gadget Profile: Samsung Galaxy S II

I've been a gadget geek for quite some time now. So when I launched a technology blog, I'll admit I wanted to get to do device reviews. While it isn't always the case, most other sites reviews seem kind of dry and technical. As a friend of my stated, the reviewers seem a bit entitled. They're reviews seemed jaded and biased. To really gain something from them you'd have to know the basic technologies they mention. They will mention the WVGA display and pixel density, but they don't really tell you what that means for you. I understand why they do it; they just cover the news and devices, they're not meant for the everyday reader. Most of these sites assume a certain level of technical knowledge from their readers. But where does the everyday reader/consumer go?

Innovations From Smut: Advancements the Internet Owes to Porn

Uploaded by Mason Costa on November 1st 2011 at 01:24PM

Many people think companies like Google and Facebook shaped the internet. And there is truth in thinking that these companies are helping to mold the future of the internet. But what if I told you we owe most of the features we all enjoy today to the porn industry? That's right, the adult film industry is responsible, either wholly or partly, for advancements like online payment, streaming video, live chatting and more. We can also thank the adult film industry for malware, pop up ads and possibly most annoying of all, spam! It's true that many people regard adult films as filth and smut and possibly a sign of a declining morality in the world today. Others look at online adult content as the reason they are willing to pay $50 a month for high speed internet. Whether you fall into these camps, or somewhere in between, it's impossible to deny the contributions of the adult film industry.

Why We Love Being Scared

Uploaded by Mason Costa on October 31st 2011 at 11:48AM

As many of you know, Halloween is today. One of the staples of Halloween is the haunted house. This is an experience that has perplexed me for years. I've never understood why people will pay to be scared. The same thing goes for horror movies. If I'm going to pay for something, I don't want to fear for my life or want to curl up in the fetal position at any time. Needless to say, I'm more of a comedy fan. But, as luck would have it, I married one of those people that love haunted houses. My lovely wife enjoys having the bejesus scared out of her. Unfortunately, it's just fun for her, so I can't really glean anything more than that about the reasoning from her.
